How to use these worksheets

Short and often beats long and rare. Take one table a week: the sheet on Monday, a few minutes of practice each day, and the same sheet again on Friday against the clock. When a child can finish a table sheet in about two minutes with no mistakes, move on. Keep the filled chart nearby at first, then swap it for the blank chart.

Worksheets are good for showing work and for the multi-digit problems. For the facts themselves, speed of recall matters most, and that's what a timed drill builds. Our answer data from more than 32,000 multiplication facts shows the 12s are missed most often (13% of answers), followed by the 7s, 9s and 11s; 6 × 8 alone is missed 19% of the time. Those are the sheets worth repeating. The full breakdown is in the hardest times tables.

Common questions

Are these multiplication worksheets free?

Yes. All 19 are free PDFs to download, print, copy and share for home or classroom use, with no login, sign-up or email.

Do the worksheets have answer keys?

Yes. Every worksheet has its answer key on page 2 of the same PDF. For the blank multiplication chart, the filled chart is the key.

What grade learns multiplication?

Most US classes introduce multiplication in 2nd grade through equal groups and skip counting, expect fluency with all facts to 10×10 by the end of 3rd grade, and move on to multi-digit multiplication in 4th and 5th grade.

Which times table should a child learn first?

Start with the 2s, 5s and 10s, which follow from skip counting. Then the 3s, 4s, 6s, 8s and 9s, and finally the 7s, 11s and 12s. Every fact a child learns also covers its turnaround: 3×7 is the same fact as 7×3.

How many multiplication problems should a child do a day?

One worksheet, or 5 to 10 minutes of practice, most days is enough. Short daily practice builds recall faster than a long weekly session.

Will the worksheets print on A4 paper?

The PDFs are US Letter. Choose “Fit to page” in the print dialog and they print correctly on A4.
