How the color by number works

Every square on the color by number sheet holds an addition fact. The key at the top gives a color for each answer: 11 is green, 7 is red, 17 is yellow and so on. Solve the sum, color the square, and a Christmas tree with a star and ornaments appears. A wrong answer shows up as a square that doesn't fit the picture, so children can find and fix their own mistakes. The colored tree is on page 2.

A December math countdown

The weeks before winter break are a good time for short, daily practice: one worksheet a day, or one side of a page, keeps facts fresh without feeling like homework. Facts a child misses twice on paper are the ones to drill. A one-minute Num Drill quiz finds the facts a child is slow on and brings them back until they stick.

Teachers can send a class straight to a specific skill and level with an assignment link; see Num Drill for teachers. More everyday sheets are on the printable worksheets page.

Common questions

Are these Christmas math worksheets free?

Yes. All 7 are free PDFs to download, print, copy and share for home or classroom use, with no login, sign-up or email.

What grades are the Christmas math worksheets for?

Grades 1 to 4. The ornament trees and color by number practice addition and subtraction within 20 (grades 1–2), the two-digit sheet covers carrying and borrowing (grades 2–3), and the multiplication and division facts suit grades 3–4. The word problems span grades 2–4.

Do the worksheets have answer keys?

Yes. Every worksheet has its answer key on page 2 of the same PDF. On the trees the key fills in each ornament, and the color by number key is the finished, colored picture.

Will the worksheets print in black and white?

Yes. The Christmas trim is thin outlines, so the pages print cheaply in black and white, and the tree and ornaments are left blank for coloring.

Can teachers use these worksheets in class?

Yes. Teachers, tutors and homeschool groups are welcome to print and photocopy them for their students.

How do I print them on A4 paper?

The PDFs are US Letter. Choose “Fit to page” in the print dialog and they print correctly on A4.
